Our Story - My Florist Launceston Tasmania
Looking back, flowers have been part of my life from the very beginning. They say what you loved doing as a child is often a pure reflection of your natural joy and who you truly are. As a small child, I would gather flowers from my mum’s garden to make into bouquets and, in spring, pick daffodils from the neighbouring laneway.
The Roots: A Family Heritage in Flowers (1980s–1990s)
My connection with the flower industry began in the 1980s, starting with a high school job picking flowers. During the historic flower-growing boom associated with industry leaders like Triffett Flowers and Tesselaar Flowers, my parents grew and supplied premium blooms—a foundational history that became the bedrock of my own journey.
Building on that momentum, our family expanded their vision in 1990 by purchasing the Westbury property, laying down permanent roots for Hillside Flowers. Throughout the 1990s and beyond, this property became the heart of our operations, allowing us to deeply connect with the Tasmanian landscape and the local Meander Valley community. Today, Hillside Flowers stands as a testament to that decades-long dedication, combining a rich family heritage with a deep, practical knowledge of the floral trade.
It really does feel as though flowers are in my blood.
The Evolution: Mastering the Trade & Local Collaboration
With over 30 years of hands-on industry experience, my floral background spans growing, wholesaling, bulk distribution, and retail floristry. This deep expertise led me to own and operate Launceston West Tamar Flowers in Riverside, Tasmania, further cementing my connection to northern Tasmanian flower lovers.
In 2015, the next chapter began when I independently launched "My Florist" as my own home-based business in Westbury. The local floral community quickly recognized this lifelong expertise. In 2016, Felicity from Flowers on Gilbert in Latrobe asked me to cover her shop just before the historic Latrobe floods. Later that same year, Liz from Kings Meadows Florist Flowerland reached out for support. That temporary helping hand turned into an incredible partnership, and Liz entrusted me to manage her store for the next five years while I concurrently grew my own business.
The Fusion: Flowers, Crystals & Community Today
I always wanted to offer something distinct alongside our flowers, stepping away from generic florist gift lines. When my daughter-in-law suggested crystals, it connected perfectly with my personal love for tarot and the metaphysical world—and Metaphysical Launceston was born.
What began with just one small table at the Evandale Market has bloomed into the vibrant space we operate today. We are proud to offer a curated blend of fresh flowers, crystals, tarot and oracle cards, crystal jewellery, incense, indoor plants, and meaningful gifts.
Today, the family tradition continues: after welcoming two beautiful babies, my daughter-in-law Piper works proudly alongside me in the shop.

In 2024, My Florist Launceston was featured in a local television news story about the busyness of Mother's Day and new mums snuggling up to their babies in hospital.
Our South Launceston shop is a little different from a traditional flower shop.
Outside is the noise and movement of busy Wellington Street. Step through our door and the feeling changes. Flowers, plants and crystals surround you, the gentle sound of our water feature runs through the shop and beautiful fragrances fill the air.
Our customers often tell us how wonderful the shop smells and how peaceful it feels.
That is why I describe it as our sensory sanctuary — somewhere to step away from the stressful world outside for a while and simply enjoy the space around you.
Floristry With Heart & Soul
I put my heart and soul into every flower order. Flowers energise me, and even after all these years I still love seeing fresh flowers arrive and imagining what they can become.
Some of the work closest to my heart is creating funeral flowers and floral tributes. Knowing the flowers I create will form part of a family's final farewell to someone they cherished makes this work incredibly meaningful to me.
Casket sprays, floral sheafs and sympathy tributes allow me to create something personal that reflects a life, a memory and the love held for that person.
For me, that is one of the greatest privileges of being a florist.

Today, My Florist Launceston Tasmania and Metaphysical Launceston share our home at 2/222 Wellington Street, South Launceston, bringing the best fresh seasonal flowers, plants, crystals and meaningful gifts together in one space.
From establishing My Florist in Westbury in 2015, to expanding to Launceston in 2017, the creation of Metaphysical Launceston in 2021 and our Launceston shop in 2022, the business has changed and grown considerably.
The heart behind it hasn't.
